La Roche Fendue
The Domaine de la Roche Fendue is nestled in the heart of the village of Château-Chalon, one of the most emblematic in the Jura, known exclusively for producing vin jaune. This small, discreet estate takes its name from the impressive limestone cliffs that overlook the Château-Chalon vineyards.
Cultivating only Savagnin, the iconic grape of vin jaune, the estate ages its wines under a veil for over six years, in strict adherence to the appellation's rules. Viticulture is reasoned and sustainable, with all work carried out manually on steep slopes.
Production remains extremely limited, giving the cuvées a highly artisanal and sought-after character. The domaine’s vin jaune stands out for its remarkable aromatic complexity, with notes of walnut, curry, dried fruits, and its powerful, persistent structure.
It perfectly captures the uniqueness of the marl-limestone terroir of Château-Chalon, one of Jura’s most prestigious. The domaine occasionally also produces rare ouillé-style Savagnin cuvées, more accessible when young, as well as some Macvin du Jura. La Roche Fendue remains a discreet but valuable address for lovers of authentic Jura wines.
