Located at the foot of the limestone cliffs of Pic Saint-Loup and Hortus in the Valflaunès valley, Domaine de l’Hortus is one of the flagship estates of the Languedoc region. Created by Jean Orliac in the 1990s, it is now managed by the second generation of the family. The vineyard covers over 60 hectares, cultivated organically or in conversion. The domaine focuses on meticulous vineyard work, controlled yields, and precise vinification.
The wines are produced under the Pic Saint-Loup and IGP Val de Montferrand appellations. The reds, mainly from Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Grenache, are known for their balance, freshness, and expression of terroir. The whites, often based on Roussanne and Marsanne, stand out for their finesse and minerality. Domaine de l’Hortus is now a benchmark for the Languedoc’s qualitative revival.
