Jean François Ganevat
The Jean-François Ganevat estate, located in Rotalier in the southern Revermont of Jura, is one of the most iconic domaines of the region’s revival. After training in Burgundy and working at Jean-Marc Morey’s in Chassagne-Montrachet, Jean-François Ganevat returned to his native Jura in the late 1990s to take over the family estate.
He now farms about 14 hectares biodynamically, with a great diversity of Jura grape varieties, including ancient and forgotten ones. His viticulture is demanding: horse-drawn plowing, no chemicals, manual harvests, strict sorting. In the cellar, vinification is natural, with no additives or sulfur (or very little), and aging is long, in amphorae, foudres, or barrels.
The estate produces around fifty cuvées, some from specific plots, others as highly experimental micro-cuvées. The wines red, white, yellow, or skin-contactare marked by vibrant purity and energy. Ganevat has become an icon of natural wines, combining technical precision, inventiveness, and deep respect for terroir. His inimitable style seduces wine lovers worldwide while remaining deeply rooted in the Jura.
