Domaine Stéphane Murat

The Stéphane Murat estate, now located in Marsannay, reflects a strong rooting in the northern Côte de Nuits. Formerly based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the domaine has refocused its activity around Marsannay, a vineyard gaining recognition for the quality of its terroirs. Stéphane Murat cultivates with great care parcels of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay spread across Marsannay, Fixin, and sometimes other nearby appellations.

The domaine emphasizes clean viticulture, with mechanical soil work, exclusion of chemical herbicides, and continuous attention to the vine’s sanitary condition. The harvest is manual, rigorously sorted to keep only the best grapes. Winemaking follows a low-intervention approach: indigenous yeasts, moderate pigeage, and gentle extraction to promote finesse and transparency. Aging in barrels (often with a measured proportion of new wood) allows the wines to develop complexity and structure without masking the fruit or terroir’s typicity.

Stéphane Murat’s reds charm with their purity, aromatic freshness, and a supple, elegant palate, while the whites display vivacity, precision, and a fine mineral backbone. The domaine is part of a new generation of independent winemakers who highlight Marsannay as a prime area balancing accessibility and excellence, offering expressive, sincere, and carefully crafted wines.
