Bouzeron 2022 - Domaine de Villaine

The 2022 Bouzeron from Domaine de Villaine is an iconic cuvée, sourced from the finest hillsides of the Bouzeron appellation. This white wine is crafted exclusively from "Aligoté Doré," a variety selected for its low yields and superior aromatic finesse. Since 1973, the estate has championed this unique grape, offering a wine that combines freshness, elegance, and roundness, while reflecting the richness of its marl-limestone terroir.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: The wine displays a brilliant pale yellow hue.

  • Nez (Nose): Discreet at first, it quickly opens up with fresh, floral aromas of linden and white flowers.

  • Palate: The harmony between the fruity richness of the Aligoté Doré and the mineral character of the marl-limestone soil is striking. The finish is long, marked by a slight saline bitterness that enhances its freshness and invites another sip. This energetic and distinctive wine can be enjoyed now for its vibrancy, or aged for 3 to 5 years to reveal a fuller structure.

Food & Wine Pairings

The 2022 Bouzeron pairs perfectly with a wide range of dishes:

  • Seafood: It enhances shellfish such as oysters, shrimp, or mussels marinière.

  • Fish: It elegantly accompanies grilled fish or those served in light sauces.

  • Cheese: Excellent with aged cheeses, particularly goat cheese, Beaufort, or Parmesan.

Best served at an ideal temperature of 12°C to reveal its full freshness and balance.

The Bouzeron Appellation

The Bouzeron appellation, located in the Côte Chalonnaise, is unique in Burgundy as it is dedicated exclusively to the Aligoté grape. The estate’s vines, planted on marl-limestone slopes, benefit from optimal exposure that promotes perfect ripening. This terroir gives Bouzeron wines their distinct character: a vivid freshness, a pronounced minerality, and the ability to evolve gracefully over time.
