Pouilly-Loché

The AOC Pouilly-Loché is a small communal appellation in the south of Burgundy, located in the Mâconnais region, on the commune of Loché, now part of the city of Mâcon. Created in 1940, it covers around 33 hectares of vineyards exclusively dedicated to producing white wine from the Chardonnay grape. This discreet terroir is a direct neighbor of Pouilly-Fuissé and shares similar geological characteristics, with well-drained clay-limestone soils, often facing east or southeast.

Pouilly-Loché wines are distinguished by their finesse and aromatic purity. They often display aromas of white flowers, citrus fruits, peach, fresh almond, and sometimes honey or hazelnut after a few years of aging. On the palate, they are taut, balanced, with pronounced minerality and a beautiful persistence. Less opulent than some Pouilly-Fuissé wines, Pouilly-Loché seduces with its subtle elegance and precision.

Thanks to winemakers committed to quality viticulture, the appellation is gaining recognition. Although still relatively unknown, Pouilly-Loché represents an excellent introduction to the great white wines of the Mâconnais, often offering very good value for money. It pairs perfectly with grilled fish, seafood, creamy poultry dishes, or goat cheeses.
