Mâconnais
In the southern reaches of Burgundy, the Mâconnais unfolds across gentle valleys and striking limestone cliffs, such as those of Solutré and Vergisson. This southern-tinged terroir is largely dominated by Chardonnay, which accounts for nearly 80% of plantings. It produces generous, round, and fruity white wines, with aromas of citrus, white flowers, and honey.
Gamay, still well established here, yields supple, juicy reds, while Pinot Noir plays a more discreet role.
The Mâconnais stands out for its rich variety of appellations, including renowned Villages such as Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran, and Viré-Clessé, as well as regional appellations: Mâcon, Mâcon-Villages, and Mâcon followed by 27 specific village names (like Chardonnay, Fuissé, Verzé, Uchizy, etc.).
With roots in the work of the monks of Cluny, the Mâconnais is a vineyard steeped in history and blessed with a welcoming, natural charm.
It’s an ideal region to discover a more accessible, sun-kissed, and expressive side of Burgundy.
