Northern Rhône (Northern Rhône Valley)
Located between Vienne and Valence, the Northern Rhône is the kingdom of Syrah, home to great red wines that are powerful and elegant, as well as superb whites made from Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne. Prestigious appellations such as Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, and Condrieu can be found here. The wines are deep, intense, and often built for aging.
Saint-Joseph AOC
Located on the right bank of the Rhône River, between Condrieu and Cornas, the Saint-Joseph appellation unfolds along steep hillsides that give rise to red and white wines full of energy and elegance. The reds, crafted primarily from Syrah, combine spiced and fruity notes—blackcurrant, violet, black pepper—with hints of smoke or licorice. On the palate, they are supple and fresh, with fine structure, making them approachable in their youth while retaining excellent ageing potential.
The whites, though rarer, are made from Marsanne and Roussanne. They reveal aromas of white flowers, honey, and apricot, with a rounded texture balanced by a lively tension. Saint-Joseph charms with its harmony of character and finesse—a must-try for those seeking the purest expression of Northern Syrah.
