Domaine Sylvain Pataille is a winery located in Marsannay-la-Côte, north of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. Founded in 1999, the estate now covers approximately 18 hectares spread across the Marsannay appellation, producing a diverse range of red, white, and rosé wines. Sylvain Pataille, an oenologist by training, has gained a reputation for his environmentally respectful approach and commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture. The estate has been certified organic since 2008 and has practiced biodynamics since 2015, although the certification was lost in 2016 due to a necessary treatment to save the harvest.

The wines are made from grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Golden Aligoté. Harvesting is manual, and vinifications are natural, with gentle pressing and minimal cellar interventions. Aging is done in oak barrels, with a variable proportion of new barrels, lasting between 15 and 18 months. This approach results in wines of great finesse, with a beautiful expression of the Marsannay terroir.

Among the estate’s flagship cuvées are the Marsannay Rouge, made from old vines planted on various soil types within the appellation. This wine features aromas of red fruits, violet, and licorice, with a rich and supple palate, generous tannins, and a juicy finish. The Marsannay Blanc, made from Chardonnay, offers a lovely minerality with notes of white flowers and a fresh finish. The domaine also offers cuvées such as Marsannay “Longeroies” and Marsannay “Vin-Mille,” both highly regarded for their quality and terroir expression.

Sylvain Pataille’s wines are regularly praised for their elegance, complexity, and their faithful reflection of the Marsannay terroir. They are available for direct sale at the domaine, as well as through various wine merchants and specialized retailers.
