Maranges
Located at the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune, the Maranges appellation marks the transition toward the Côte Chalonnaise. It is best known for its red wines made from Pinot Noir — structured, generous, and sincere — that beautifully reflect their rustic and sun-drenched terroir.
Maranges reds display aromas of red and black fruits (morello cherry, blackberry), sometimes with notes of plum, damp earth, and a hint of spice. On the palate, they are well-structured and can be slightly firm in their youth, but mellow with time to reveal great drinkability.
These are authentic, characterful wines — ideal companions for hearty regional dishes like grilled meats, slow-cooked stews, or aged cheeses.
The whites, though rarer, are made from Chardonnay and are fresh and floral, with a marked mineral streak.
The appellation includes several noteworthy Premier Crus worth discovering, such as La Fussière, Le Clos des Rois, and Les Loyères.
